Strathfield has been ranked one of Australia’s top ten most affluent suburbs and “the richest suburb in all of Sydney”. [2][3]The name Strathfield came from an early settler’s estate on land that now forms part of this suburb – it means ‘marshy ground’.

The area that was to become Strathfield was originally inhabited by Indigenous Australians, who would have been members of the Darug people. European settlement began in 1795 with the area becoming known as “Bethfield” or “Bethaven”. During this period it was a farming community with some orchards beginning to be planted. In 1803 Governor King granted 100 acres (40 hectares) to each settler with land around it being purchased from aborigines; however, most Aborigines were forcibly pushed off their land during this time period.
In 1810 there were more than 50 residents living here so a schoolhouse was built for local children which also served as a place for worship services when needed; today this building still stands on its original site – right next door at 79-83 Railway Parade North!

The area was originally home to the Wangal people who had lived there for over 50,000 years. The land was also part of the Eora nation and its inhabitants were considered to be one half of what is known today as Sydney’s most famous cultural history.

Strathfield has a strong sense of community and has a variety of shops, restaurants, cafes and entertainment venues on offer. The Strathfield Plaza Shopping Centre has all your needs covered with an array of shopping options including Coles supermarket, Woolworths supermarket and specialty stores like JB Hi-Fi, Aldi and Target as well as many other retailers.
The local schools are well regarded in Strathfield including St. Gabriel’s Primary School (Catholic), Glebe High School (Public) and Holy Spirit School (Private). There are several parks in Strathfield including Belmore Park which has an open space where you can enjoy family picnics or just take a stroll with your dog along the creek bed that runs through it.
The Strathfield Town Centre is a major hub of activity, with many shops and restaurants as well as cinemas and live theatre performances taking place here throughout the year. It’s also home to Australia’s oldest operating cinema theatre (the Palace Picture Theatre), which opened in 1912!
In addition to these activities, there are plenty of parks within walking distance so you can relax in nature whilst enjoying all the amenities that Strathfield has on offer.
